Every numbered card in tarot obeys the logic of numerology. Ones (the Aces) are always potential and beginnings. Twos are choice and duality. Threes are the first result and growth. And so on up to the Tens, which mark the close of a cycle.
Once you know the numerology and the element of the suit — Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles — you can work out the meaning of any card yourself, without opening the reference.
